Apology for Masanori, the samurai of the Sardinian language

During the last few months, Casteddu and Sardinia have had a really welcome guest: Masanori, a Japanese eighteen-year-old guy who chose our land for his first “European” trip, due to his fascination for Sardinian language and culture.

I met Masanori in February, at the second meeting of Casteddu Speaks Sardu, the initiative of the Lìngua Bia association to come together, speak Sardinian and get to know new people with the same desire for dignity and normality for our language.

On that day, I arrived and saw this Asian guy, sitting and chatting with the other people…it wasn’t adding up! So, I got close and asked him: «Do you speak Sardinian?». He replied to me: «Yes, I have come from Japan to speak Sardinian!». What an amazing and wonderful thing!

Came from his city of Kobe, in the island of Honshu, with a small Japanese-Sardinian dictionary as a trip tool, he has been staying in Sardinia over two and a half months, visiting the best nuraxis, attending several events of great importance for our identity, like Sa Sartìllia, and even enjoying our culinary traditions!

And, above all, he has been trying to practise his Sardinian every day and has keenly been taking part in all the meetings of Lìngua Bia, Casteddu Speaks Sardu and BlaBla Language Exchange. We have admired him and he has helped many Sardinians to realize how lucky they are to enjoy our culture and identity.

Owing to this great example, we must thank you Masanori, samurai of the Sardinian language!
